The SIG Sauer P320 represents one of the most significant milestones in modern American military small arms. Adopted by the United States Armed Forces under the designation M17/M18, it replaced the long-serving Beretta M9 and became the new standard-issue sidearm across all branches of the military.
The P320 brought modularity, simplicity, and rugged reliability into a single platform — qualities that helped it win the U.S. Army’s XM17 Modular Handgun System competition.
When the U.S. Army was searching for a new service pistol, the requirements were strict:
1) improved ergonomics
2) modular design
3) reliability in harsh environments
4) adaptability for different hands, missions, and calibers
The P320 delivered all of that and more.
Its fire-control unit (FCU) — the serialized, removable core — became the heart of a modular system that allows the pistol to be reconfigured into different sizes and calibers.

Today the SIG Sauer M17/M18 serves not only the Army, but also the Navy, Air Force, Marines, and numerous law-enforcement agencies across the United States.
The pistol is often described as the new symbol of the modern American soldier.
The SIG P320 quickly earned its place in pop culture thanks to its modern, tactical look and military associations.

Its presence in games like Escape from Tarkov, Call of Duty, and Rainbow Six turned it into a recognizable symbol of modern military hardware for millions of players.
In movies and TV, the P320’s clean silhouette and no-nonsense appearance make it a natural fit for military and law-enforcement roles.
My 3D-Printable P320 Prop Model
For this project, I created a highly detailed, durable, mechanically functional 3D-printable P320 designed for filmmaking, cosplay, and active prop use.
This model is not a replica of the internal firearm mechanisms — instead, it is engineered for:
1) strength
2) reliability
3) long life on set
smooth and repeatable mechanical action
It includes a one-piece display stand and uses the standard FDM printer size of 220×220×240 mm, making it accessible to most home printers.
